Being a woman is easy said no one ever! But, when we come together we can make being a girl a little easier. There are many women in this world who are in need that may be refugees, fleeing a domestic violence relationship, homeless, or in transitional housing. According to National Statistics, women make up 50% of any refugee internationally, 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S, and there are about 554,000 homeless people in need.
I Support the Girls is a non profit organization that was accidentally founded by Dana Marlowe who distributes donations of new and gently used bras, in addition to menstrual hygiene products to women in need worldwide. The magnificent idea came about when she went in for a bra fitting and asked the clerk what she could do with her bras at home that no longer fitted her. The clerks suggestion was simple, women who are homeless are in desperate need, and items like that are rarely donated. From that point forward Dana began reaching out to friends and friends of friends to gather enough bras and menstrual products to donate. With a heart of gold she expected nothing in return of her kindness when her donations became a movement. Since then, their contributions have helped over 180,000 women by collecting 350,000 bras and 1,800,000 menstrual hygiene products to 350 vetted shelters and organizations.
At Bloom Bras we are a company that supports and values women empowerment and women's rights. Therefore we are thrilled to announce that we will be partnering up with I Support the Girls collecting slightly used bras, underwear, and feminine products in San Francisco and Oakland. Our first contribution kicked off this Saturday August 11, 2018 at Revelation in fit, in Oakland. Together we can change the lives of so many women in need.
